Technician (multiple positions), long term assignment, South San Jose area

SUMMARY
Assembles a variety of electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical  subassemblies..

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for of  precision optical assembly in clean room environment, Tests functional performance of systems, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions. Calibrates test instruments according to specifications, Documents assembly and test procedures, Verifies dimensions of mechanical parts. Reviews test equipment setup to evaluate performance and operation of nonstandard or customer returned units.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  This position requires strict attention to detail and computer literacy.  Soldering and electronic fabrication skills required. Must have excellent written and oral communications skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and one year related experience working in a clean room class 10 or higher, handling chemicals such as acetone and alcohol, and familiarity with semiconductor cleaning processes; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Technical Writer

SUMMARY
Write and/or edit technical documents such as software and/or hardware user manuals/reference guides, service guides, and training materials.

Primary objective is to make technical information understandable for people who do not have a technical background.  This is accomplished by interfacing with the software/hardware developer’s to gain a thorough understanding of the design requirements/specifications, how the software/hardware functions, how it is assembled and tested, and what the failure symptoms, causes and corrective actions would be.

A Technical writer needs to sort and organize information, select photos, drawings or artwork that properly illustrates the project. In some cases, they decide what illustrations are needed and arrange for their production. They may also draw sketches or take photos themselves.

Create a rough draft per VeriFone technical writing standards, submit copies to reviewers or technical staff, revisions, based on technical reviewer feedback, and prepare a final draft.  When the final draft is accepted, writers release the documentation per the VeriFone document control system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consult with technical team to learn requirements, purpose, and audience for the writing project.
  • Read and review written information about the project. May look at manufacturers' catalogs and technical journals.
  • Study drawings or observe operation of item to understand the technology.
  • Interview scientists, engineers, or managers who work on the product. Take notes.
  • Sort and organize the material and prepare an outline.
  • Select photos or illustrations, or arrange for their production.
  • May draw sketches or take photos to illustrate the project.
  • Write rough draft considering standards of order, clarity, style, and terminology.
  • Submit copies of draft to technical reviewers.
  • Write final draft according to corrections and suggestions.
  • Release final version to production status.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Typically reports to Manufacturing Engineering Manager

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Follows standard procedures with minimal guidance from more experienced team members to produce manuals and other technical materials. 
  • Requires a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience or demonstrated aptitude with 2-4 yrs work experience.
  • Experienced in writing technical manuals/guides for commercial electronic communication equipment.
  • Understands hardware and software engineering terminology.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of Frame Maker software
  • Ability to analyze data and information
  • Good organization and planning skills
  • Ability to use computer terminals, basic office equipment and software applications, including schedulers, spreadsheets, databases, and word processors.
  • Detailed knowledge of spelling, grammar and composition.
  • Ability to present information to large groups of people
